Winters in Canada are full of harsh, bitterly cold days. That's why you will see so many cities throughout the country taking at least a weekend in the summer to get together and celebrate with all sorts of activities. In Red Deer, this is done with the Westerner Days Fair and Exposition in the middle of July. This is a five-day event and brings in those who live locally who install interlocking pavers to those from across the country and the world.

There are lots of things to do at Westerner Days no matter how old you might be or what you're interests are. Every night there are great music acts that will bring in everyone from a high school student with a love of country to a Davisville Village realtor who's been following their favorite rock act around the country for years. The Sunny Family Fun Zone has been around since 2009 and offers a number of activities that parents and children can enjoy together. Come and see the clown or have your kid take part in the tractor pull.

From a hypnotist to the RCMP Police Dogs, there is always something new and exciting at Westerner Days. Someone who's taken advantage of a childrens fitness tax credit for dance lessons or can sing could also enter the talent contest. You can spend the day at the midway with a Ride All Day pass or could finish the evening with the Northern Lights Fireworks Show. Tickets for one day of the event are $10 and Ride All Day passes cost $30. It is an additional $6 to park on site.

When going to any fair in Alberta, you can expect that there is going to be some sort of livestock involved. Westerner Days has a cow show, the Alberta Goat Classic, a miniature horse show and the Miniature Donkey Extravaganza Show. This is something that you might want to compete in if you're coming from a London Ontario stable or just is entertaining to watch. It's also something that's interesting to see if you're not from the Prairies and don't know much about these animals.

The Main Gate of Westerner Days is in Westerner Park on 19th Street and there are also two gates on 49th Street. The festivities begin at noon each day and last well into the evening. If you're a Toronto caterer planning a trip to Red Deer than you could likely fill a whole day with all that's going on here in July. Or you could just stop by for a few hours in the afternoon and visit your favourite attractions with the whole family.
